Lake Poets Walk
Join us on a walk around Rydal Water, past the home of William Wordsworth at Rydal Mount. Course tutors and participants will stop to read poetry along the route; settings of which will be performed in evening concerts. We end at St.Oswald’s Church, Grasmere visited by many of the Lake Poets who took long walks in the area.
The Lake Poets were a group of English romantic poets who lived in the Lake District in the first half of the nineteenth century. William Wordsworth, Samuel Taylor Coleridge, and Robert Southey were the three main Lake Poets who became the central figures of what became known as the Lake School, with nature providing their sublime source of inspiration. Some other writers associated with the Lake Poets included Dorothy Wordsworth, Charles Lamb, Mary Lamb, and Hartley Coleridge.
Attendance at the Lake Poets Walk will be free of charge. If you are not already a course participant, please email the course convenor warren@grasmeresong.co.uk to register your interest, so that we know numbers attending in advance.
N.B. The walk from Ambleside Parish Church to St. Oswald’s Church in Grasmere is about 4 miles (6.5km) offering stunning views of the surrounding landscape through woodland and open fellside. The path is well-trodden, and generally easy to moderate, with some gentle inclines.
